International Leadership Summit
The Energy Crossroads International Leadership Summit is an annual occurence where students from Energy Crossroads groups around the world meet to share ideas, build relationships, and plan events, activities, and strategies for both their respective university communities and larger collaborative initiatives.
Inaugural ILS - November 1-2, 2008, Singapore
Energy Crossroads convened its first ever International Leadership Summit (ILS) in Singapore on November 1-2, 2008, following the inaugural Asian Youth Energy Summit hosted by Energy Carta. Twenty student representatives were present from five countries China, Denmark, India, Singapore, and the United States, and travel was sponsored by the Copenhagen Climate Council and Energy Carta. The major successes from the inaugural ILS include:
- The students from China and India officially joined the Energy Crossroads coalition.
- The Global Conference Series idea was solidified, and each student group began planning their activities. The theme of the Conference Series will center on "The Opportunity" - of clean energy, and of our generation.
- The Global Steering Committee was established and chartered with an action plan.
- Educational components from the U.S., Denmark, China, and India (as well as extensive education during the Singapore-based AYES conference the previous two days) helped everyone better understand how clean energy is viewed in our respective countries.
- With support from the Copenhagen Climate Council, students brainstormed a campaign to involve youth in the COP-15 climate negotiations in Copenhagen.
- New friendships, stronger community, great food, and outstanding hosts from our students in Energy Carta at the National University of Singapore!
